The Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has named three consecutive steps that must be taken in order to regain control over the occupied territories of the Donbas.

According to him, the first step would be to end the hot phase and fire.

“We're confident we'll achieve this in the near future,” Zelenskyy said during the Unity Forum in the eastern Ukrainian city of Mariupol on October 30.

The second step, according to the president is "reconciliation, healing of the wounds." Then, safe reintegration would need to follow.“Not on paper, but in reality,” Zelenskyy added.

He stressed that after five years of war, Ukraine needs a state strategy on reintegration of Donbas and Crimea.

The president once again highlighted that the return of these territories needs to be carried out via "diplomacy and sanctions," naming meetings within the Normandy Format as one thing that can help.
