During a joint briefing with Portuguese Prime Minister Antonio Costa, President Volodymyr Zelensky said that he expects from the second meeting in the Ramstein format a decision on providing Ukraine with American multiple launch rocket systems.

"The fact that the 'Ramstein meetings' continue is already a positive outcome [...] We expect positive [news] on the supply of MLRS. I have no secrets. We call on all countries to supply MLRS systems, thanks to which Ukraine will be able to take the initiative and liberate its territory," the Ukrainian leader stated.

Zelensky reminded representatives of countries that are afraid to provide Ukraine with such weapons, allegedly because of their possible use to attack Russia, that Ukrainians are fighting on their territory.

"If someone from Europe or the world is used to the fact that Donbas is a territory occupied by Russia and Russian passports have already been distributed there, I want to say that this is not a very good practive. This is our territory and we are moving step by step towards its liberation. We cannot afford to pay the price of tens, hundreds of thousands of people. Therefore, we ask you to help us," Zelensky stressed.

According to him, currently the weapons Ukraine needs are simply stuck in some countries. At the same time, Russia is holding "threatening talks" at various levels with countries around the world on the transfer of MLRS to Ukraine.

"We should not be afraid — we should unite. Unity is exactly what the Russian Federation fears. It is afraid of strong unification, it is afraid that the European Union and the United States will act as one. This is very important for us. We really need material assistance," the head of state added.

What meeting is this?

On April 26, representatives of the defense ministries of more than 40 countries: the EU, NATO, Africa, the Middle East and the Persian Gulf, as well as the Asia-Pacific region met at Ramstein Air Force Base in Germany. The event was organized by the United States.

As a result of the meeting, the Ukraine Defense Consultative Group was established, which will operate on a permanent basis and will meet once a month. This will optimize and speed up important processes for obtaining weapons, improve logistics, and ensure optimal coordination.

The summit also adopted a strategic decision on the transition of the Ukrainian army to NATO calibers and equipment.

Besides, it was agreed at the meeting that the training programs will be scaled up and extended even to those models of weapons and equipment for which there are no political decisions yet.

The second meeting of the Ukraine Defense Consultative Group will take place on May 23.
