The Sunday Show: Ukraine Amid Elections and Political Imprisonments
13 July, 2019

This week has not just been about the upcoming elections. The story of Ukrainian political prisoner Serhiy Litvinov serving Russian sentence in eastern Ukraine shocked the country, but he was finally pardoned by President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. On the other end of the spectrum, Vitaliy Markiv, who found himself facing accusations of complicity in the murder of an Italian journalist in Donbas in 2014 was sentenced to 24 years’ imprisonment. Meanwhile, Zelenskyy’s Servant of the People party maintains a very healthy lead in the polls, whilst other parties are doing their utmost to win additional seats in the new parliament. This week’s Sunday Show will feature writer and founder of Statement Email Paul Niland, and the director of Ukrainian Diplomatic Academy Sergiy Korsunsky, who will discuss the latest developments in Ukraine.
