Talking Crimea 5 Years After Annexation: Simon Ostrovsky
10 March, 2019

This March, we’re marking five years since Russia’s illegal occupation and annexation of the Crimean peninsula. In February 2014, Russian soldiers without any insignia – known as the “little green men” – started seizing government building and blocking military. This was followed by an illegal referendum in March, which triggered a string of sanctions on Russia from various western countries.

American journalist Simon Ostrovsky was one of the first journalists to come to Crimea and cover the events for foreign audiences. From March 3, 2014 he had been making regular dispatches from the peninsula entitled “Russian Roulette.”

This Sunday Show, we’re sitting down with Ostrovsky to discuss what he observed back then and how it helps him understand today’s events in Ukraine.
