Ukraine LGBT Leaders Urge Community To Rise Up Against Hate Crimes
6 December, 2014

There should be no place in Ukraine for aggression against minority groups, said LGBT activist Olena Shevchenko during a gathering outside Kyiv's City Hall on Friday. The rally was held to demand a thorough investigation into a fire that ravaged the city's historic 'Zhovten' theater. The fire occurred during the screening of an LGBT film. Though investigators are unsure whether the act of arson was a possible hate crime against the LGBT community, or if it was the byproduct of an ongoing land dispute over the Zhovten theater building, Shevchenko said it's important to figure out what happened.
