U.S. Special Representative for Ukraine Negotiations Kurt Volker says the United States will work with any government in Ukraine, no matter who wins the elections.
"The U.S. is not in support of any individual candidates. We support principles and we believe in reform, we believe in fighting corruption, we believe in security. And we're going to work with Ukraine on all of those things. We're going to work with whomever the leadership turns out to be," Volker said.
He also highlighted that Ukraine has done more in the last two years than in the previous 25.
Asked whether there would be risks of escalation in the Donbas in case of comedian Volodymyr Zelenskiy becoming president, Volker said "it's up to Ukrainian people to decide whom they want to be their president."
"Ukraine is a sovereign country. It's an important country. And we will work together with Ukraine on all of the issues that we work on with Ukraine today," he highlighted.
