Participants of the march, titled "Tolerate no more," chanted "freedom, equality, women's solidarity" as they made their way across the city centre.

According to a Hromadske journalist, the event was held to remind the public that March 8 is a day to fight for women's rights and gender equality.

A similar event was also taking place in Kharkiv.

However, not everyone who rallied in Kyiv today stood in solidarity with the gender equality message. A small group had gathered in front of St. Michael's Cathedral, holding anti-feminism signs in protest of the march.

The march follows UN Women’s #HeForShe movement launching a series of cultural events in Kyiv on March 7 to progress the fight for gender equality in Ukraine.
