German Railway Company To Provide Management Consulting for Ukraine

The Ukrainian railway company, Ukrzaliznytsia, has signed a memorandum of cooperation with German’s main rail operator, Deutsche Bahn (DB). According to the terms of the document, the latter will provide management consulting for Ukrzaliznytsia.

This memorandum will be another government effort to reform the state-owned railway company, which has seen numerous major corruption scandals over the years.

The memorandum was signed by Ukrainian Prime Minister Oleksiy Honcharuk and DB Board Member for Infrastructure Ronald Pofalla.

“Of course we understand that the first step of cooperation between our companies will have a rather consultative character, but we hope that with time we will be able to come to a deeper form of partnership,” said Honcharuk.

Originally, reports about cooperation between the two countries’ railway companies stated that DB would take over management for Ukrzaliznytsia – however, this text is not found in the agreement.
