Destroying Barricades During Ukraine's EuroMaidan. December 11, 2013. Kyiv, Ukraine.

On December 11, 2013 the troops from the Ministry of the Interior began their attack in order to beautify the area and dismantle the barricades and protesters.

When Ukrainians came out onto the streets to protest their former president's decision to cancel an EU Association Agreement in November 2013, they created a tent city in the centre of Kyiv that was fortified by barricades. On December 11, 2013 the troops from the Ministry of the Interior began their attack in order to "beautify the area" and dismantle the barricades and protesters. The attack was only semi-successful: they broke through some of the barricades and eventually managed to gain some ground into the Maidan protest camp however they failed to break into the occupied Kyiv City Hall and the Trade Union's Building. The protest managed to last for several months after this.
