15 years ago, September 16, 2000, Ukrainian journalist Georgiy Gongadze was kidnapped and later found beheaded. Three former officials of the Ukrainian Interior Ministry's foreign surveillance department and criminal intelligence unit (Valerii Kostenko, Mykola Protasov, and Oleksandr Popovych) accused of his murder were arrested in March 2005 and a fourth one (Oleksii Pukach, the former chief of the unit) in July 2009. To date, no one has yet been charged with giving the order for Gongadze's murder.
Journalists, activists and Kyivans gathered in Kyiv on September 16, 2015 to commemorate Gongadze and other slain journalists.
