Austria Allows Extradition of Oligarch Firtash to the US

Austrian Justice Minister Clemens Jablonerhas grantedpermission to extradite the Ukrainian oligarch DmytroFirtash.

Austrian Justice Minister Clemens Jabloner has granted permission to extradite the Ukrainian oligarch Dmytro Firtash.

This was reported by the press service of the Austrian Ministry of Justice.

The Minister decided to do so after consulting the Austrian Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Now the Land Court of Vienna is in charge of extradition arrest and further deportation of the Ukrainian to the United States.

Attorneys of the oligarch filed a petition for the renewal of the trial in the extradition case. Firtash will remain in Austria until the court decides on this petition.

Later on July 16, spokeswoman of the Land Court of Vienna for Criminal Cases, Christina Salzborn said to Voice of America that "the extradition is unlikely to take place before the end of 2019." 

Earlier, on June 25, the Austrian Supreme Court allowed the extradition of the Ukrainian oligarch Firtash to the United States.
