One major argument in Washington against giving military aid to the Ukrainian army is that it would lead to an escalation of the crisis and spur Russia to send more military aid to separatists in eastern Ukraine, said John Herbst, Director of the Dinu Patriciu Eurasia Center at the Atlantic Council and former ambassador to Ukraine (2003-2006) during an interview on Hromadske International's Sunday Show. This line of thinking is flawed, Herbst explained.
