On November 26, 2015, civil and human-rights activists gathered to celebrate the birthday of political prisoner Oleksandr Kolchenko, a Crimean who is being held as a political prisoner in Russia. The celebration for the 26-year-old took place in Kyiv’s Sofiyivska square.
Kolchenko’s supporters filmed a video greeting for the political prisoner, which was later projected on to the wall of Saint Sophia Cathedral.
On November 24, 2015, Russia’s Supreme upheld the sentences against Kolchenko and another political prisoner from Ukraine, Oleh Senstov. Sentsov has been sentented to 20 years in a penal colony, and Kolchenko to 10.
