The experience of Debaltseve offers a better understanding of the reality of the situation in the east of Ukraine and the problems of this war, said Rebecca Harms, a member of the European Union Parliament, referring to the recent capture of Debaltseve by Russian-backed separatists.
Debaltseve was taken after the second Minsk ceasefire agreement was implemented.
Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko asked for a U.N. peacekeeping mission in the region to insure that the demarcation line between Ukrainian-held and separatist-held territories was not violated. Harms said the introduction of such forces was one of the best ways to make sure the provisions of the second Minsk agreement were honored.
Hromadske International's Nataliya Gumenyuk and guest host Gulliver Cragg spoke with Rebecca Harms on Feb. 22, 2015.
