The best way for Ukraine to counter Russian propaganda is to focus on the things which are very hard for them to deny or fake: live reporting and video content, Michael Cruickshank, Editor of Conflict News told Hromadske. According to Cruichshank, Ukraine’s counter propaganda strategy on the other hand is a bad idea as no one will trust what they are saying.
It is difficult to protect citizen journalists from attack in conflict zones, added Cruichshank, but an environment like Reddit definitely helps. Together with Conflict News, Hromadske International launched a special Reddit event on crowdsourced fact checking in places like Ukraine where there is an ongoing information war.
