Putin's Thought Process. Interview With Vaira Vīķe-Freiberga
21 September, 2015

What You Need To Know:

✓ UN is completely paralyzed by Russian veto to solve the Ukrainian crisis;
✓ "The idea that this is an internal conflict in Ukraine is ludicrous";
✓ The world is not free of evil and Europe must be prepared for aggressive actions;
✓ Reestablishing trust with Putin should not be on the table.

Vaira Vīķe-Freiberga, the 6th President of Latvia, says that international supervision and patrolling of the border between Russia and Ukraine is a precondition of any further discussions.

She goes onto say that the "UN is completely paralyzed by Russian Veto" and that the OSCE is still not able to take the steps necessary to end this conflict.

Since the Second World War, she believes that "Europe must remember that this is the most serious breach of borders." In her opinion, the EU has the power to stop this conflict but perhaps not the will.

Finally she says that if the world wants to bargain, trust and collaborate with Russia, they should not do it at the expense of countries like Ukraine and other countries which border Russia.

Hromadske International's Nataliya Gumenyuk spoke with Vaira Vīķe-Freiberga, at the YES conference in Kyiv on September 12th, 2015.
