On A Mission to Evacuate East Ukraine Mental Institution Amid Brutal War

Hromadske journalists Nastya Stanko and Kostyantyn Reutsky visited a state neuropsychiatric residential institution in Popasna, Luhansk region. Its 28 patients were in the process of being evacuated. The majority of the residents are immobile and confined to wheelchairs. There were 32 people on the evacuation list, but four refused to go. Moments before some of the patients evacuated the institution, an area less that 1 km away from the institution was shelled. The grad fire severely injured a local woman who consequently died from her wounds. About 70 patients and 40 members of the staff remain in the town which comes under constant artillery fire.
