Medics from Maidan Remember Shootings

Two volunteer medics, Oleksandr Chernysh and Veronika Selega, spoke about their experiences caring for those who were injured when shooting broke out on Kyiv's Maidan Square during anti—government protests

Two volunteer medics, Oleksandr Chernysh and Veronika Selega, spoke about their experiences caring for those who were injured when shooting broke out on Kyiv's Maidan Square during anti-government protests one year ago.

Both Chernysh and Selega spoke about the importance of taking action, rather than waiting for change to happen.

"Everybody was waiting for a Winston Churchill for Ukraine," said Chernysh. "But Winston Churchill said all I can promise is tears, sweat and blood." Ukrainians cannot expect wide-sweeping changes with a new government, they must work for it as well, Chernysh explained.

Hromadske International's Nataliya Gumenyuk and guest host Gulliver Cragg spoke with Oleksandr Chernysh and Veronika Selega on Feb. 22, 2015.
