Non-Public Conflict Brewing Between Putin And Russian 'Siloviki'
16 March, 2015

For the first time during President Vladimir Putin's presidency, there is a conflict between the country's Federal Security Services (FSB) and the Chechen leader, Ramzan Kadyrov.

This is an interesting moment because it suggests internal conflict in the Kremlin circle, said Anna Nemtsova, a Russian journalist and correspondent for Newsweek and the Daily Beast.

During the early years of his presidency, Putin won favor by subduing separatist movements in Chechnya, in part by funding Ramzan Kadyrov and Kadyrov's father before him.

Hromadske International's Nataliya Gumenyuk and Ian Bateson spoke with Nemtsova on Sunday, March 15, 2015.
