The "Black accountancy" leak of 2012 Party of Regions bribe documents published by ‘Ukrainska Pravda’, detailing bribe payments across Ukraine's then-political spectrum has been the number one topic in Ukrainian Media all week. According to Sevgil Musaieva-Borovyk the editor of the news organization that leaked the documents and broke the story, this disclosure shows just how corruption works in Ukraine and that the “budget of political party can be more than 100 million dollars per year.”

‘Ukrainska Pravda’ published just a small part of the documents, 3% says Musaieva-Borovyk, with some estimates claiming that corruption amounts to 2 billion dollars in Ukraine. The documents show a variety of people from various social circles, she adds. “It’s interesting for Ukrainian citizens because Ukrainian citizens understand that such practice financing of political party is still working in different ways.”

Musaieva-Borvyk hopes that this leak will lead to discussions in Parliament, but will depend on how the Anti-Corruption Bureaus reacts to the documents. “We must work on how to make political life in Ukraine more clear and how to make financing of Ukrainian political party more transparent.” Recovering the money, however, will be difficult if not impossible.
