"Ukraine asked to become members of the European Union, it was not a conspiracy of the West, like Russia says, to grab Ukraine" says the 11th President of the European Commission, Jose Manuel Barroso.
Mr. Barroso reflected on his many years dealing with Putin, saying that he knows him well, and watched the 'negative evolution' of Putin after his second election. In Mr. Barroso's experience, it was never the EU which provoked Russia, but rather the opposite. He says that in his negotiations with the Russian President, it became clear that he simply doesn't respect the idea of Ukraine.
"I don't think the President of Russia has yet accepted the independence of Ukraine. He made many comments about Ukraine that I don't think anyone should make about another country."
